Anatomy Academy (Fall 1)
Attention future doctors: the Anatomy Academy is now in session! We’ll delve into the human body’s fascinating system of cells, tissues and organs. Create a model of blood, skin, and tour the digestive system. Build a working representation of the lungs and make a creepy-cool model of the eye. You’ll discover you are smarter than you think when we learn all about the brain and how it works.
Design & Build Club (Fall 1 & 2)
Create, design, build: it’s engineering in action! Be an inventor and design a water filter that really works, and create a contraption to keep an egg from crashing. Make your own balance toy, create a creature that will sink and float, and construct a craft stick catapult.
Frozen Science (Fall 2 & Winter 1)
Love all things Frozen? Go on a Frozen Science expedition! We’ll make “frozen” slime, create six-pointed snowflakes, and make our own magical indoor snow. Grow cold crystals and make a spectacular density-based snow globe. Finally, warm up by making your own homemade hand warmers!
Paws, Jaws and Claws (Winter & Spring)
Take a look at some of your favorite wild animals and determine if they are predators or prey. Learn to identify track patterns of canines and felines (dogs and cats) and compare animals in the wild to our domesticated pets. Creep with big cats and lope like coyotes. Be sly like a fox as you learn about local predators and what they eat. Each week you’ll focus on a specific species to become a wildlife expert.
Wicked Cool Discovery Lab (Spring)
Six of our favorite science lessons wrapped up into one fun-filled program! Explore the Earth by making mesozoic volcanoes and delve deep into the ocean to the coral reefs. Get electrified creating simple circuits and become a chemist to make rainbow slime. Each week we’ll get into fun science and engineering challenges — all tried and true favorites!
LEGO Robotics (Winter & Spring)
LEGO Robotics introduces kids to robotics programming. Kids create bots with motors and sensors and program them on our own computers. There are lots of challenges to engage budding techies. Starting 2nd grade.
LEGO Engineering Junior (all year)
LEGO Engineering Junior is a 6-week program designed specially for kids in grades K-1. The activities promote teamwork and critical thinking skills as kids investigate basic engineering concepts using DUPLOs. Build a seesaw, vehicle, and spinning top and other fun working mechanisms. Perfect for the young builder with tiny hands! K-1st grade.
LEGO Engineering Junior Imagineers (all year)
A Wicked Cool For Kids exclusive! Using LEGO DUPLOs, kids in K-1 will listen to stories based on popular fairy tales. Kids will use the engineering design process to help solve their hero’s problems using simple machines. Help LEGO Sam and Sara create Rapunzel’s tower and a pulley system to lift her lunch! Prince Charming’s buggy is busted – can Sam and Sara build a Charming Car to carry the Prince’s blocks and save the day? This program will emphasize creativity, cooperation, engineering, math and literacy skills. K-1st grade.
LEGO Engineering (all year)
These programs teach basic engineering concepts, problem solving, and teamwork by playing and building with LEGOs. We have three different content-based programs to choose from:
1. Engineering Concepts
Engineering Concepts covers basic simple machines and is the foundation for the other topics. We investigate gears, pulleys, cams, levers, ratchets, and many other geek-chic topics by building such things as street sweepers, hammers, fishing rods and scales. Starting 2nd grade.
2. Machine Power
Machine Power looks at the uses of energy to power machines. We investigate wind power design, flywheels, gears, pulleys, and cams as we build land yachts, cars, and walking mechanisms. Starting 2nd grade.
3. Creative Engineering
Each lesson, there is a problem to solve which integrates the learning from the earlier programs. Working in teams of two, kids analyze a predicament and find an engineering solution that addresses all the needs of the conundrum. Starting 3rd grade.
